The Gynura aurantiaca (commonly called the Purple Passion or Velvet Plant) is a striking evergreen houseplant native to Southeast Asia. It is celebrated for its fuzzy, dark green leaves covered in vibrant, violet-purple hairs. It thrives in bright, indirect light and evenly moist soil, and its trailing vines make it an excellent choice for hanging baskets.

Care RequirementsLight: Bright, indirect light is essential. Morning sun is great, but protect it from harsh afternoon sun.

Tip: Lack of light will cause the purple color to fade and the plant to turn mostly green.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Water from the bottom or below the leaves, as getting the fuzzy foliage wet can lead to rot.

Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in household temperatures between 60 to 75 degrees. While they love humidity, avoid misting them, as trapped water in the fuzzy leaves invites fungal or bacterial issues.

Soil & Fertilizer: Use a standard, well-draining potting mix. Feed every two weeks during the active spring and summer growing seasons with a balanced houseplant fertilizer.
